Presenters: Diana Nucera and Mindy Faber
This workshop will examine how technology can open up new avenues in teaching and learning. Diana Nucera, multi-media artist and educator, and Mindy Faber, Director of Open Youth Networks, will show how utilizing common technologies and the creative media arts can create opportunities for in-depth, individualized, accelerated learning. We will look into the challenges this type of learning addresses and what challenges it creates.
This workshop will present ways of assisting young people in the design and use of participatory media tools that enable them to create projects of dialogue, consciousness and action around issues affecting their lives. We will explore how iPods can become learning tools, ways of using audio technologies to communicate mathematical practices, and how educators can support young people in developing innovative micro-enterprises rooted in today's digital youth culture.
