Presenters: Ken Wachsberger
Participants will get answers to their questions about copyright and intellectual property. We will cover the basics of copyright: what it is, what it does, how a writer (or other creator) gets it, what a writer can do with it. This high-level discussion will address copyright and the electronic age (how the new publishing media and technology affect copyright and its protection), and alternatives to copyright (for example, Creative Commons "licensing"). Advice on how to negotiate the sale or use of your creative work will also be provided.
The presenters will be Ken Wachsberger, a trained NWU contract advisor and author of numerous books, and Amy Rose, the NWU’s National Grievance Officer.
The National Writers Union is dedicated to educating writers to understand contracts, one clause at a time. We teach members how to negotiate contracts: what to ask for, what to expect in return, and how to counter. In addition, NWU helps writers with grievances against publishers. NWU has helped writers recover over $1.4 million in money owed to them.
